Thaksin’s Red Shirts deliberately sabotaging Thailand’s economic recovery

When it comes to protesting it is one thing. But when the intent of the gathering is something other than protest, at the very least it becomes criminal if it infringes on others. When the intent is to disrupt the governments attempts at economic recovery, it becomes treason.

With just a quick Google search for ‘treason definition’ the search promptly comes back with.

  • A crime that undermines the offender’s government.
  • Disloyalty by virtue of subversive behavior.
  • Treachery: an act of deliberate betrayal.

One of Thaksin’s personal promotion points is ‘The man that can’ but more specifically he wants it to be ‘The ONLY man that can’. So any success by Prime Minister Abhisit simply gives Thaksin a little crow to eat.

Seeing that on a level playing field Prime Minister Abhisit will do a fair job and bring Thailand out of the economic hole it is in. But playing fair is not one of Thaksin’s strong points, so the intent of the Red Shirts gathering has at least 2 reasons. One of them is to not allow Abhisit and his government to have any success.

If you stop and think about it, the entire military and police presence in Phuket for the ASEAN summit was simply to keep Thaksin out. Flashing back further the same deal was in Pattaya when the summit was there. So that brings us to the story below.

Quoting the Bangkok Post;

Red-shirts protest in Pattaya

Members of Pattaya People Who Love Democracy Club were preparing to rally against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at Dusit Thani Pattaya hotel late on Tuesday afternoon, sources in the resort city said.

The prime minister is scheduled to attend a dinner party for at least 800 people of the Thai-Chinese Business Forum about 6pm at the hotel.

The red-shirts planned to gather at a traffic circle in North Pattaya this afternoon before marching to expel Mr Abhisit from the Dusit Thani hotel, the asources said.

A large number of police have been deployed in areas around the hotel.

The two-day meeting hosted by the Ministry of Industry has drawn 260 Chinese investors from 50 companies belonging to the World Eminence Chinese Business Association, as well as 500 local businessmen.

Without looking at Thai law, enough of these events have occurred to show a pattern to the courts. With that the possibility of a court injunction banning any and all future Thaksin related gatherings no matter what name or color shirt they wear. That certainly would be the path to take and Thaksin could most certainly argue the case in court. Seeing that Thaksin has a fugitive status, the court may require Thaksin to be present in the court for all proceedings from the word go. In other countries the convicted give up some rights, and for what it is worth, Thailand could use a little of that now to reel Thaksin in. At the very least it will buy some relief for Thailand from Thaksin’s personal self serving onslaught.

One Response to Thaksin’s Red Shirts deliberately sabotaging Thailand’s economic recovery

    It’s been happening since 2008 hasn’t it? Thailand is possibly the only place in the world where the PM and senior government ministers cannot safely set foot in certain regions of the country. Now if you call that treason, I wonder whether anyone has accordingly pressed the charges against the PAD, who I believe originally came up with this idea of forcing ministers out of ‘their’ territory.
