Burma’s elected leader freed by junta

In what clearly looks to be throwing a bone at the dogs of democracy, Burma’s junta has released Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest that was keeping her from taking office. But after looking at the first 24 hours of her release, it is starting to look like it was only a delay and the people of Burma are already falling in line behind her.

Chances are this will be blocked in Burma, but that really does not matter. The people of Burma are much more expert at what is going on than anyone else. So blocking Connecting the Dots is a sign that the Junta is still paranoid and still fears the power of Aung San Suu Kyi, and that by far is a very good thing.

For what it is worth, this will not be a long entry, but more of a read of what is going on and a bit of a prediction of what will happen next. Unfortunately there will be more arrests, more blood spilled and very likely Aung San Suu Kyi will be returned to house arrest by the junta. How long that will take is unknown, but most certainly the people of Burma will feel empowered after being force fed a constitution and election that only serves the junta.

The outside world is celebration the release of Aung San Suu Kyi, but the true time of celebration is still far away. With news that the junta has been getting nuclear materials and technology from North Korea, expect the nuclear heat Iran is experiencing to be the new staple in Burma in short order.

This will no doubt cause significant changes in the diplomatic atmosphere for the junta, coupled with Aung San Suu Kyi wielding power passively, Burma looks to be in the global spotlight much more that the junta will be comfortable with. Because of that predicting what they will do next becomes difficult. The only thing certain is it will be self serving.
