  • Going after China

Posted on March 25, 2010 12:03 am by Richard

There are more than a few people about the planet who feel China is overstepping the fair play line. Add to that competitive human nature and for many it becomes a huge game of ‘King of the hill’ and looking to take China down a few notches. Continue reading → Post ID 7450

  • Global warming hits Olympics

Posted on February 13, 2010 12:01 am by Richard

It would seem that of late the Olympic games are being effected by man made decisions elsewhere in the world. The 2008 Olympics in China were marred by events in Tibet causing issues with the running of the torch, and this time it seems there is too little snow due partly to global warming. • Pushing back at China

Posted on February 8, 2010 12:02 am by Richard

Over the past several years China has slowly been pushing to extend it’s controls past it’s borders. But now it seems they have come to a point that enough is enough. Continue reading → Post ID 7450

  • The Dalai Lama more popular than Chinese government

Posted on September 20, 2009 12:01 am by Richard

It seems that where ever The Dalai Lama goes, he is accepted openly and seen in a good light. However when you look at the Chinese government, they are more viewed as business minded and not caring a whole lot about others. Continue reading → Post ID 7450

  • China releases restraint

Posted on August 26, 2008 12:01 am by Richard

Once the Olympic spotlight is turned off in China, there is every indication that China’s self imposed temporary restraint will end. China did what can only be described as ingesting poison during the Olympic games. In the eyes of China freedom of speech is seen as poison, and there were more than subtle hints in the media China was very uncomfortable swinging to be as open as it was during the last 3 or 4 weeks. Now that time is ending and what can be expected is the pendulum swinging the other way, and that means arrests and more. Continue reading → Post ID 7450

Posted on August 2, 2008 12:01 am by Richard

You may have noticed a subtle but very real tension about visitors behavior at the 2008 Olympic games in China. At the diplomatic level, countries are silently concerned about potential arrests of their citizens who plan to attend the Olympic games. Continue reading → Post ID 7450

  • Once Chinese always Chinese

Posted on August 1, 2008 12:05 am by Richard

A simple four word phrase sums up a lot about China’s position that seems to be the hotspot for several global issues. As China does not want to make the Olympic games political, that position and the path the Olympic torch has taken so far makes that tough to do. Continue reading → Post ID 7450

  • The Hot Torch

Posted on April 27, 2008 11:16 am by Richard

It started as is has for many years, the Olympic flame is kindled from the sun at the site of the ancient Olympics in Olympia, Greece. Then the flame is carried by runners to the great games. However this year the Olympic torch has lit many fires of protest along the way. Not about the Olympic games, but about the bad human rights reputation of this year’s host country China. Tibet is just the tip of the iceberg as even Korea is getting into the act because of forced North Korean repatriation of defectors that often results in an execution of that defector. There certainly is a lot of discontentment to go around. Continue reading → Post ID 7450
