Other changes were being seen as well as even some Thai monks were being seduced off the path of monkhood. This however for the most part is still seen as scandalous as Thais have not forgotten their roots, but simply see it as use as needed. If a Thai goes upcountry they emulate the behavior of their parents and people in their village. So that says the behavior seen in the urban areas is much about emulation to fit in as well. Thailand’s rapidly changing culture Part 4
The taste of what was beyond Thailand continued to be intoxicating. Thais began to realize that there were huge differences in income between Thailand and the west. The encouragement of the Thai Government to become more intergraded into a global economy was also pushing change in Thai culture. Thais that saw many foreigners as being rich were discovering that those foreigners had just average income in their home countries. Continue reading Post ID 15830

Ignoring reality ultimately self-defeating
For some people the thought of reality is too much to cope with. They hide themselves from it by ignoring it and pretending it is not there. Thailand as a country more or less on a regular basis ignores reality. Failed policies or other practices that have had a negative effect on the Thai people as a whole are ignored and not addressed, and that simply causes worsening of the situation. Thailand remembers the Thaksin wedge
It was so interesting to see how quickly Thai Scholars mirrored what was said here at Connecting the Dots. Usually this type of response when one Thai talks about the failures of other Thais is very un-Thai itself. But when it comes to Thaksin Shinawatra, it seems the obvious overrides any potential loss of face. Continue reading Post ID 15830
