In what can only be described as disturbing, Rod Blagojevich was removed from office without being found guilty. This single event tears as the roots of what America’s founding fathers planted when the first called America land of the free and home of the brave.
For those of you that do not understand the significance of this event, you soon will as you read on. The United States of America was founded on several principals, and one of the most significant one is innocent until proven guilty. What the Illinois senate has done has reversed that founding principal.
Throughout the entire Rod Blagojevich issue, people who are not part of the judicial branch of government, have been acting and passing judgments as if they were part of that branch. That is the reason for the division of power to avoid a dictatorship and to keep people from being lynched by people who do not take into consideration the law. That power is solely reserved for judges. What has happened has been entirely driven by emotion and sheep mentality, and it does not matter what title the person holds that is partaking. Unless that title is judge, then they are way out of line. That includes the title of President of the United States. What has happened has been nothing less than a witch hunt.
Assuming Rod Blagojevich is found guilty in a court of law at some later date, that does not vindicate what happened in this witch hunt. Guilty or not, to convict someone of a crime requires the crime to have happened. To say that you plan to rob a bank does not make you a bank robber. Only after you have committed the act are you a bank robber. The only evidence provided against Rod Blagojevich was sound bites taken out of context, and no proof the act had been committed. The sale of the senate seat that was the primary accusation never happened.
There is no doubt at all there are very powerful political under currents at play here. If Rod Blagojevich turns out to be the good guy in all of this, it will have been a sad day in America the day he was removed from office.
The impeachment trial proceedings do however have a place. If in fact there was an offence committed and their was conclusive evidence, then the impeachment trial is the proper mechanism to remove someone from office.
With that said, the next part becomes obvious, or will soon become obvious. That is simply what goes around, comes around. Sooner or later one or more of the politicians who voted to remove Rod Blagojevich will come under attack with an accusation. Then this vicious cycle will start all over again and yet another politician will be removed on accusation and not evidence. That is what truly makes this so scarey. Guilty until proven innocent will have become the norm, and American’s founding fathers will roll in their graves because what was once a guarantee in America will have ended.
Connecting the Dots is not taking sides in this case, we are only pointing out that the system is not being used as it was intended, and the fallout could some day destroy what makes America so great.
The vote was unaminous – not one single dissenter. There was just too much evidence to let him continue in an office of “public trust”. A question of “no-confidence” whether he is guilty or not – proven beyond reasonable doubt.
Had he been smart – he would have resigned.
